I’ve lived in the Athens area for 35 years, and on the Eastside in District 8 since 1995.
I have strong organizational and administrative experience. I’m an educator by profession, first as a teacher and then as Dean of General Education at Athens Technical College, where I worked for 30 years. I’m retired now.
I’ve always believed that being involved in your community is important, and that’s why I’ve been an active citizen advocate for many years. I’m currently chair of the Athens in Motion Commission, and I’ve been involved with many community efforts including Envision Athens, the Bike Pedestrian Master Plan Citizen Committee, 100% Athens Renewable Energy Initiative, Bike Athens, Complete Streets Athens, and SPLOST Citizen Advisory Committees. I am a member of the Athens-Clarke Democratic Party.
I’ve got the time, energy, and experience to serve the Eastside and Athens as a fulltime Commissioner. I am ready to serve you.
I care about what my neighbors and fellow citizens think. I’ll make prompt constituent service a priority. I will send out a regular District 8 newsletter and have quarterly town hall meetings.
I do my homework, think critically and creatively, and ask tough questions.
I am a UGA graduate with a doctorate in Adult Education.
I’m a mother. My daughters Clare and Anne Saunders went to Athens Montessori, Clarke Middle, Cedar Shoals and Classic City High School. And now I’m a grandmother, too. My grandson, Taha, is already 6 months old!
I’m an avid cycler. I rode across the country solo in 2015, I ride regularly with a local cycling group, The Nitty Gritty Bike Band, and I use a red e-bike with big fat tires around town for errands.
